_God Hates_ Reviewed in the _Journal of Church and State_

What a treat to see God Hates: Westboro Baptist Church American Nationalism, and the Religious Right reviewed in The Journal of Church and State, a favorite journal of mine. (Check out this month’s article on covenant marriage and the Catholic church by  Thomas More Garrett to see why.) The full review is available for free online, even if you don’t have a subscription. Nicest part? When reviewer Michael J. McVicar (whose Christian Reconstruction is a must-read for those interested in the religion and American politics) said I wasn’t cynical in my treatment of conservative Christians. That’s a good reminder of a goal I need to perpetually renew.

Just in case you thought that Westboro Baptist Church was a fringe group preaching an anti-gay message that no one listens to, above, Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, a frequent speaker at Congressional social events, preaches that God will destroy America because of our increasing acceptance of gay people. He spoke at an event for members of Congress as recently as late November 2016, invited to a Religious Right event sponsored by Christian conservatives.
